Communication skills: Consulting

Hello!

As one of the efforts of IPADE to improve our abilities, we are participating in a Communication Skills seminary.

These seminaries are divided mainly in two groups: consulting in one side and finance and multinationals in the other side.

We think that these seminaries will help us to improve ourselves in many tasks like plan and give oral presentations, understand the way that people usually communicate, specially when we realize that the elements of a good engagement include the organization, strategy, resources, people skills and of course, the communication part.

The consulting seminary which it’s imparted by Dr. Greg Patton from Marshall School of Business, will include a real consulting project with a company, where we are going to realize a diagnosis, SWOT analysis, detect all the opportunities areas and make an implementation plan for all of them.

Here are some pictures of the first session:

For this time, the session was not on IPADE's installations, but in one of the Camino Real hotel's meeting rooms

Then, we went on teams of 4 to determine and priorize the best and worst traits a consultor must (or must not!) have

Then, Greg presented us what the experts had to say about it, and we did a mock consult using a USC case

After the session, we went for a meal and said "see you in the next session" to Greg  (right after the Chargers lost... too bad for poor Greg, who was rooting for them)

Next up on this seminar: find a company and formalize the consulting projects! Read More!

IPADE, ranking-wise

The Financial Times published it's renowed "The top 100 full-time global MBA programmes". Let's have a look at IPADE's performance
  1. In the overall ranking, IPADE's ranked at 93th place, and it's the only mexican business school listed in the top 100.
  2. Now, things get more interesting in the Carreers aspect, which basically measures which school has the greater impact in terms of the position occupied by its alumni. Here, IPADE holds the 6th place
  3. Last, but not least, let's check out the Placement, which measures how effective are the carreer services of the school, measured by the alumni (who, at the end of the day, are the ones who get the benefit from it), and here IPADE is 2nd!
We feel very proud to be a a part of this, because it means that IPADE's grads do make differences once they are out there, back into the real world... something we all hope to be in the future.

    Mexican Tourism: International week 2010

Last week, IPADE hosted an international event, which was from january 10 to 15. This year the focus was on the Mexican Tourism industry , and it involved just about any aspect you could expect: from the in-deph study of the economic environment and its impact on the industry, to visits and analysis of some of the most interesting places, initiatives and companies, such as the emblematic archaeological zone of Teotihuacan, or Kidzania, a company with a unique marketing strategy.(sorry, this link is in spanish)

This year, we counted with participants from many schools worldwide:
Also do check the international week blog, which contains the details of everything that happened, and the facebook group dedicated to it.

    Sector clubs

As a part of the IPADE MBA experience, there's something we've come to call the Sector Clubs. A Sector club is a group of students interested in a particular type of business, who have a strong interest and are willing to know more about said business or activity. Members of these clubs achieve their objectives via activities such as personal research, networking with the key players of said sector, publishing papers, participating in national and international competitions related to the sectors, setting up conferences and disuccion panels, etc. We, the students, have a complete freedom to establish new clubs and define what the objectives and activities will be.

Among the great things about IPADE is that these clubs, while being essentially studen-motivated and studen-driven, do get a strong support from our program directors. This support includes, but doesn't limit to, providing contacts for the networking activities, assesories for a better understanding of the sector, time and disposition to organize the work, etc.  We have another advantage networking-wise because we can also reach the major players of many sectors through the Executive Education participants and grads.

As of now, there are the following Sector clubs
    Pharmaceutical
    Technology
    Consumer goods
    Entretainment and media
    Banks and financial
    Social Responsibility
    Women's leadership

We'll have more info on each club in the near future. Cheers! Read More!

    Welcome to our blog!

We thought it would be a good idea to start by presenting ourselves: We are sutdents at IPADE's full time MBA program, who are interested in sharing our experiences throughout the program, and even more, we'd like to share with everyone what our life looks like from the inside. IPADE (www.ipade.mx) is one of the top Business schools outside the US and is known for its wholisitic, human approach to business.

We'll share just about every aspect of our experience in the program: from the actual classes to the special academic events, from the international activities to the parties and local cultural events, we'll have the testimonies of several of the current students, who are form Mexico, USA, Colombia, India, China, Germany, Canada, etc. in an effort to reflect the motivations behind their decisions to study at IPADE , and how their life is like.

We believe this is gonna be a fun and enriching tour. Enjoy!
